Commissions
Commissioning a painting is an exciting and personal process that allows clients to work directly with the artist to create a custom artwork tailored to their preferences.
Step 1: Artist Sends Examples of Previous Work
Before starting the commission, Des will share examples of previous artwork. This helps you get a sense of their style, technique, and approach. It's important to review this portfolio to ensure Des’ style aligns with your vision.
Step 2: Discuss Your Vision & Preferences
You’ll have a conversation with the Des to discuss the details of the commission. This includes the subject matter, desired size, colour palette, framing preferences, and any other specific elements you want in the artwork. Des may ask for references or inspiration images to better understand your vision.
Step 3: Agree on Terms & Payment Deposit
Once the details are clear, Des will provide a quote that includes pricing and an estimated timeframe. Typically, a 25% deposit is required at this stage to secure the commission. This deposit covers the initial stages of work, including research and planning.
Step 4: Artist Creates a Draft or Preliminary Sketch
Des will create a draft or preliminary sketch of the composition based on your input. This stage allows you to provide feedback and suggest any adjustments to the concept before proceeding to the final painting. This ensures that you’re happy with the direction of the work.
Step 5: Approve Draft & Final Payment
After reviewing and approving the draft, the artist will begin working on the final piece. Once completed, you’ll be sent a photograph or digital image of the final painting for your approval. If you're satisfied, the final payment will be due. This usually includes the remaining balance of the agreed price.
Step 6: Shipping & Delivery
Once the final payment is made, the painting will be carefully packaged and shipped to you. If you’ve agreed on framing, the artist will ensure it’s framed according to your specifications. You will receive the finished artwork ready to display in your space.
